From SPIN Farmer to Hot Sauce Maker with Tim Toews and Cathy LeValley

INSTANT LEARNING SESSION: March 19, 2pm ET

Tim Toews did not choose his niche, it chose him. Three years ago he got his first set of super hot peppers on a lark for his birthday – the top three hottest (reaper, ghost, scorpion), and a chocolate ghost. He became addicted, and it turns out he’s not alone. There is a whole sub-culture of pepperheads, and he’s out to get his share fair of the market. This year he’s growing 30 different varieties and launching his own brand of hot sauce. His demographic? White males. His sales channels? Boutique groceries, restaurants, stockyards. His brand? Grumpy Dad’s Hot Sauce.

Join in our next startup session on using a SPIN farm to launch a prepared foods business. How do you plan production of crops used in value-added products? How do you source ingredients you can’t grow? How can you use value-added products to extend your selling season? How do you find sales channels beyond the farmers market?

Let’s dig into the operations and economics of a fresh-from-the-farm prepared food business, with special guest Cathy LeValley, who is in year 4 of building her healthy snacks Good Carbs Food brand in Unionville MI.Get your pepper fix at our next Instant Learning Session.
